A Step-by-Step Guide Volunteer at New Haven Reads

  1. Fill out a volunteer application and submit the information. There are separate applications for tutors and Book Bank volunteers.

  2. Complete an interview to gauge your preferences and help us match you to the perfect volunteer opportunity.
  3. Complete a background check (Literacy tutors and Field Trip Readers only) and we reach out to two of your references.
  4. Attend volunteer training sessions and complete orientation paperwork (signing off on our code of conduct).
  5. Get started! Schedule your weekly volunteer shifts and join the NHR family!
