A Step-by-Step Guide Volunteer at New Haven Reads

  1. Fill out a volunteer application, choosing your area of interest (Literacy Tutor, Book Bank, Field Trip Reader) and submit the information.

  2. Complete an interview to gauge your preferences and help us match you to the perfect volunteer opportunity.
  3. Complete a background check (Literacy tutors and Field Trip Readers only) and we reach out to two of your references.
  4. Attend volunteer training sessions and complete orientation paperwork (signing off on our code of conduct).
  5. Get started! Schedule your weekly volunteer shifts and join the NHR family!
