NHR Honored by Black and Hispanic Caucus

On October 25, 2018, New Haven Reads was honored to receive the Mentorship Award at the New Haven Board of Alders Black and Hispanic Caucus 7th Annual Recognition Fall Gala. The  event brings together community leaders to honor programs and individuals who contribute in extraordinary ways to the New Haven community.

Our Executive Director, Kirsten Levinsohn, accepted the award and gave a brief speech. She was joined by other NHR staff members, who enjoyed speeches, dinner, and dancing. We are so grateful to receive this recognition and support of our literacy programs, and to be a part of this incredible community! We recognize the importance of working together as a city to “share the joy and power of reading” with our students and their families, and we will continue to build a community of readers, one child at a time.

Congratulations to the other honorees, New Haven Academy Principal Gregory Baldwin, New Haven Academy Program Director Meredith Leigh Gavrin, State Representative Alphonse Paolillo, and State Representative Juan Candelaria!

You can read more about the night from the Yale Daily News and the New Haven Independent.
