We hope that our teams will bring a cheering section and we have an audience participation mini-Bee, live music, a cash bar and some delicious food! Join us!
How it Works
During the Bee, adult teams of three compete in “swarms,” or initial rounds of seven teams each. Our Word Master presents the words, and the teams work together to spell and write out each word for three judges. Together with a timekeeper, they oversee the Bee. The last team standing in each swarm competes in the final for a trophy and the glory of being New Haven Reads Spelling Bee Champs!
In addition to the Spelling Bee Champs trophy, teams can win awards for best team name, most spirit, and best team costume. Generous local businesses donate raffle prizes and prior to the Bee, audience members and participants enjoy a cash bar, food, and dessert bar.
