Yale School of Management, 165 Whitney Ave
Doors open at 6 p.m., event runs from 7 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m.
This is not your ordinary Spelling Bee! The Spelling Bee is NHR’s annual fundraiser to support our literacy programs. This event, which takes place in New Haven each October, has become a fixture on the community calendar. All proceeds go to NHR literacy programs.
Teams should have received emails with information about the Bee.
If you have questions, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Doors open at 6pm and one team member from each team must come to the Team Registration table to register the team and collect your snazzy tote bags! The Bee will start promptly at 7pm. We can’t wait to see you!
The Bee is open to the public. Audience members are welcome and encouraged to attend the Bee! You do not need a ticket, just show up at the event. There is a suggested $10 donation per person. We hope that our teams will bring a cheering section and we have an audience participation mini-Bee, live music, a cash bar and some delicious food! Join us!
During the Bee, adult teams of three compete in “swarms,” or initial rounds of seven teams each. Our Word Master presents the words, and the teams work together to spell and write out each word for three judges. Together with a timekeeper, they oversee the Bee. The last team standing in each swarm competes in the final for a trophy and the glory of being New Haven Reads Spelling Bee Champs!
In addition to the Spelling Bee Champs trophy, teams can win awards for best team name, most spirit, and best team costume. Generous local businesses donate raffle prizes and prior to the Bee, audience members and participants enjoy a cash bar, food, and dessert bar.
Each year, generous sponsors throughout the community come together to make the New Haven Spelling Bee possible. Thank you! Are you interested in sponsoring the Spelling Bee? Contact Fiona@newhavenreads.org for more information or download the sponsorship packet below.
