Topic: “Diagnosis Dyslexia: Now what? Misperceptions of Dyslexia”
About the speaker:
Wendy North received her undergraduate degree in Special Education in 1982 and a Master’s Degree in Special Education with a concentration in reading disabilities in the late eighties. Wendy began her teaching career as a Preschool Special Education teacher, and after several years left that position to work as a Resource Room teacher for elementary school-aged students with reading disabilities. After being trained in Orton Gillingham Multisensory Structured Language techniques, Wendy worked for a decadeone-on-one with dyslexic teens and adults. Wendy became passionate about making a greater impact by focusing on teacher training and was hired by Haskins Laboratories in New Haven to work on two research projects bringing the research and science of reading to teachers in their schools. She has worked with teachers from preschool through high school in urban, suburban, public, private, parochial, and charter schools. Wendy currently works for Literacy How based in Trumbull, CT providing professional development for teachers and administrators.
