Pre-K and Kindergarten Programs
Now in its seventh year, the New Haven Reads Pre-K and Kindergarten programs focus on equipping students with the tools they need to succeed at school.
We now have 42 children attending classes twice a week at two locations. Classes are small and students receive a lot of individual attention. The Pre-Kindergarteners work on acquiring a solid foundation of basic literacy skills in preparation for Kindergarten. The Kindergarteners focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, and sight word recognition along with some penmanship. Parents are encouraged to stay and observe the classes.
Most of the students from last year’s kindergarten classes have moved to one-on-one tutoring and many of the current kindergarteners are graduates of the Pre-Kindergarten Program.
