Job Description: Site Director

Non-Exempt – Full Time – $16.00 per hour

Job Reports To:  Education Director

Job Summary:  The Site Director is responsible for site and program management and providing educational support to families and tutors.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Facilitates the scheduling and pairing of tutors and children
  • Monitors instructional plans for each student in order to help all students achieve proficiency in reading
  • Provides support and feedback to tutors; gives advice and direction regarding educational needs of students
  • Meets with parents and provides educational support, suggestions, and guidance, as needed
  • Advocates for parents at PPTs as requested by the Education Director
  • Oversees the review of tutor notes in students’ files along with the Assistant Site Director
  • Assists in scheduling CORE test administration to designated students in the fall and spring
  • Supervises the set up and break-down of the site, ensures supplies are neat and organized
  • Maintains records of student attendance, volunteer attendance, sign-in/out sheets, and supply inventory
  • Responsible for the safety and supervision of children
  • Acts as a substitute tutor when needed
  • Actively engages with students by building relationships with them and acting as a source of motivation for them
  • Sets high expectations for students and handles discipline problems appropriately
  • Answers and makes phone calls to volunteers and families in a professional manner
  • Attends monthly Staff meetings and bi-weekly SD meetings

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience working with children and families from low socio-economic backgrounds
  • Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with or ability to learn Salesforce (Data Management System)

Preferred:

  • College degree, a teaching certificate or education degree in elementary education or related field
  • Spanish a plus

Hours:

  • Monday through Friday, 10:30 am – 6:30 pm, but schedule may vary based upon need

Job Description: Assistant Education Director

Location:  45 Bristol Street, New Haven, CT 06511

Non-Exempt – Full time $18 per hour

Job Reports To:  Education Director

Job Summary:  Assist the Education Director in maintaining an effective educational program consistent with the vision and mission of New Haven Reads.

Major Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Administration –

  • Maintain all calendars related to the Education program
  • Maintain all required data related to Yale Reading Corps, Experience Corps tutors and Summer Interns, as well as other affiliate groups
  • Monitor accuracy and timeliness of data and reporting associated with Planning and Placement Team meetings (PPTs) in Sales Force and student information in Lexia
  • Maintain the Salesforce Wait List for Pre-K/K and Tutoring
  • Responsible for network notification of weather related closings
  • Creation of Site Director meeting agendas
  • Maintain updated staff emergency contact information, including the addition of new employees

Communication –

  • Effective, timely, and professional communication with students, parents, staff, and school officials

Program –

  • Assist with the design, development, and implementation of programs
  • Covering for the Education Director and staff as needed
  • Attend PPT meetings as needed
  • Interview candidates for college positions (Yale Reading Corps, Summer Interns)
  • Assist with CORE Testing
  • Assist with Tutor Trainings
  • Work collaboratively with the Pre-K/K Program Director to plan curriculum, direct staff, communicate with parents, and register students

And other duties as assigned by the Education Director.

This position requires:

  • College degree in area of education
  • One year minimum of experience working in a classroom
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with limited supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and problem solve
  • Attention to detail
  • Flexibility
  • Sensitivity to confidential student information

Preferred:

  • Reading specialization a plus
  • Spanish a plus

Hours:

  • 11am-7pm, Monday-Friday, but schedule may vary based upon need
