The New Haven Reads Community Book Bank depends upon donations from the surrounding community. We give away over 130,000 books each year to area residents, schools, and organizations, and all of our books are free.
Book Bank Location: 45 Bristol Street, New Haven, CT 06511
School Year Hours: Monday – Friday 1:00 – 6:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
How do I donate books?
If you have a small donation (the equivalent of 5 standard size boxes or less), you may drop off books at 45 Bristol Street in New Haven during our open hours: Monday-Friday 1-6 PM. (Please note that we have reduced hours during breaks.) Due to space constraints, any larger donations (6 boxes or more) must be scheduled ahead of time with the Book Bank Manager. We do not accept book donations when we are closed, except by appointment. To schedule a larger donation or a drop off outside of our public hours, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
What books can I donate?
We take any books in good to excellent condition, but we do not accept any books in poor condition — eg falling apart, moldy, etc. If you’re not sure, ask yourself if you would feel comfortable giving the books to a close friend. Additionally, we DO NOT accept encyclopedias; multiple copies of textbooks; magazines; or VHS tapes.
Can you pick up my books?
Unfortunately, the Book Bank is unable to pick up donations.
How do I organize a book drive benefiting New Haven Reads?
If you are an individual or organization that would like to arrange a Children’s Book Drive on behalf of New Haven Reads, we would love to speak with you about it. Please email email@example.com.
Where do your books come from?
Our books are mostly donated by individuals or community groups. Some books come to us from libraries and schools.
