I am grateful to have another opportunity to work at New Haven Reads as an intern again this summer. Although my major is graphic design, I like working at New Haven Reads and working with the students.

Working with the students is great. They get comfortable with you and they tell you all the great things they did in the summer. I remember when I was tutoring a student from the last summer, he told me every time I tutored him what he made in arts and crafts. He was so excited to show me what he had created that day and talk about how he made it.

This summer the clubs I am leading are Math 1 and Arts and Crafts. This will be my first time leading clubs because last summer I assisted. This year, I see how it’s a bit challenging because we have to figure out what type of worksheets we would have to give them or what projects would be fun to make. Projects can’t be too difficult and they must be able to complete them in one session. On the other hand, I am excited to work with the students who are creating and expressing themselves with arts and crafts, and to teach and help students to learn about math.

I would like to thank First Niagara Foundation and New Haven Reads for giving me another opportunity to be an intern again this summer. I can’t think of a better place to work at then at New Haven Reads. It’s nice to know that everyone who works or volunteers at New Haven Reads are making a difference in the students lives.

Thank you to the First Niagara Foundation in partnership with KeyBank for generously funding six college-age interns at New Haven Reads this summer.
